Position Summary-

This is Monday - Friday 2ND Shift 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM

Pharmacy technicians assist the pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient and pharmacy records in a manner consistent with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as pharmacy policies and procedures. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service and patient care to ensure a positive experience and patient healthcare outcomes.

Essential Functions:

Efficient and knowledgeable of basic principles, theories, laws, policies, and procedures that pertain to compounding- specifically USP <795> , <797> , <800> , other USP general chapters, and best compounding practices.

Prepares high-quality compounded medications (capsules, troches, creams, solutions, etc.) according to USP <795> , <797> and <800> and other compounding rules and regulations in both ISO 5 environments as well as non-sterile hazardous rooms.

Performing compounding procedures, quality assurance/control checks, and preparation of compounded medications

Understands and can perform basic pharmaceutical calculations to obtain correct doses of medications

Prepares medications under the supervision of a pharmacist so they are accurately compounded. Adheres to appropriate safety and quality assurance practices and OptioRx policies and procedures. Complies with state and federal laws.

Prepare and package medications requiring special handling in accordance with safety measures

Aid in the filling, processing, and dispensing of medications

Re-package and label medications

Adhere to safety practices to ensure quality care for patients

Help maintain the drug inventory through inventory control practices

Triage requests and prioritize them to drive efficiency

Other tasks assigned by the manager

Represent the pharmacy professionally and courteously in all interactions with patients

Assist in resolving patient concerns and complaints

Report product incidents as required by pharmacy policy

Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies

Participate in the pharmacy’s Performance Improvement program

Initial, periodic and validation training as required by USP <795> , <797> and <800>

Must be able to pass 795 sterile compounding validation testing.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Training:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required

Formal compounding training/certifications (i.e. PCCA, ACA, ASHP) an advantage

Al least 2 years sterile compounding experience.

Professional Experience:

Training on calibration, maintenance, and use of appropriate equipment to compound prescription orders and monitor the compounding environment

Basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing into all units of measure

Licenses/Certifications:

Must have a current Pharmacy Technician License in good standing in the State of California.

Enhanced compounding training from a recognized program preferred

CPhT preferred/PCTB

Specialized Skills:

Proficiency with technology use, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PPT), Outlook & Internet applications, pharmacy management systems, PCCA or other compounding software used by pharmacies

Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices

·Technical Skills: Underlying skills that enable an employee to perform effectively on the job

Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal

Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal skills

· Successfully pass background check prior to employment
