Location

We’re seeking a dynamic and motivated contributor to join our team in one of our key office locations: San Francisco.

About the Internship

We are seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer AI Intern to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with our AI and engineering teams to design, develop, AI-driven solutions. You will gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge AI technologies and contribute to real world projects.

Our elite team is fast, innovative, and flexible; with a 2-week, agile release cycle and individual ownership. We expect great things from our engineers and reward them with stimulating new projects, emerging technologies, and the chance to have a significant impact.

What You’ll Get To Do

  • Assist in designing and building backend services for AI agent orchestration, RAG pipelines, and lifecycle management.

  • Learn about and contribute to our standards for observability and operational excellence in a production environment.

  • Participate in test-driven development, design sessions, and code reviews for mission-critical AI infrastructure.

  • Help build and test scalable, secure APIs (REST/GraphQL) that support our Agentic Experiences.

  • Collaborate across Engineering, Product Management, and Security teams to solve technical and non-technical challenges.

Who We are Looking For

The ideal candidate for this role will identify with our passion and pride in the simple elegance and usability of our solution and will join an engineering team that strongly believes in automated testing, UX design, and an iterative process.

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related fields and graduating December 2026 or Spring 2027.

  • Solid programming skills in Python, ready to build the core logic for our AI services.

  • A foundational knowledge of how modern software communicates, including concepts like microservices and REST APIs.

  • An understanding of how backend systems connect to user experiences, with some familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks like React.

  • A drive to translate computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms) into solutions for complex, real-world AI challenges.

Preferred Skills:

  • A genuine interest in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts like LLMs and RAG pipelines, or frameworks like LangChain is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity developing containerized applications and deploying them to Kubernetes on cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

  • You enjoy being part of a highly collaborative, remote-friendly environment.

  • You’ve built, broken, and rebuilt software applications, demonstrating creative thinking and a desire to build real-world products.

Okta’s Intern Program As an intern, you’ll do real work that matters. While you’re on board, you’ll work on meaningful projects and have an opportunity to see what working at Okta is all about. You’ll also have the assistance of your mentor and manager to help you develop new skills.

Our interns have the opportunity to build a strong community - with their fellow interns, within their teams, and with the broader company. We want you to grow professionally and you’ll do that through participating in events like our Executive Speaker Series and Brown Bags. And of course, we want you to have fun too.

We offer 12-week summer internships in the U.S. with two available start dates. You may choose from the following options: May 26 – August 14 or June 15 – September 4.
